Workspace Crashes

Level 7
I am getting repeated workspace crashes when starting Flex Builder 2
(final). I have isolated the problem an SWFLoader of a SWF file.

Here is the contents of the error log:

Here is what the pop-up gives when the error occurs (you guys should also
make this a paste-able block).

JVM Terminated. Exit code=1
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\jre\bin\javaw.exe
-Xms128M
-Xms512M
-XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=20
-jar C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\startup.jar
-os win32
-ws win32
-arch x86
-launcher C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\FlexBuilder.exe
-name FlexBuilder
-showsplash 600
-exitdata 188c_6c
-vm C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\jre\bin\javaw.exe
-vmargs
-Xms128M
-Xms512M
-XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=20
-jar C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\startup.jar

(I was able to isolate this to one component, which repeatedly crashes
FlexBuilder).

Hi Yechezkal,

Exactly when does the crash occur? Does it happen when you open the custom component, or when you open a file that uses the component? Also, does it happen when you're in code view, or only in design view?

Would it be possible for you to post the source of the custom component? That would help us track down the crash. (If you don't want to post it publicly, we could arrange for you to email it to us directly.)

Thanks,

nj

Also--the SWF file that the SWFLoader is trying to load may be causing the problem. It would be great if you could post that somewhere we could get to it as well.

Thanks,

• 4. Re: Workspace Crashes
Level 7
In answer to your questions:

1. The crash only occurs when I change the view on the MXML to "Design
Mode". But once I do that, Design mode is sticky and it sticks to the last
open file. So each time I restart FlexBuilder2 I get the crash. So it is a
major pain.

2. As I said, I isolated things to this very short custom component. Which
only contains an SWFLoader. If I commment out the loading of this component
(Which I have to do outside of FlexBuilder2 with a text editor) then I can
restart FB2.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Box xmlns:mx=" http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns:local="*"
creationComplete="startup()">
<!-- Load the Flash 8 Yahoo map movie-->

<local:MapTalk id="mapTalk" />
<mx:SWFLoader id="map" width="100%" height="100%"
source="flashMap.swf" autoLoad="true"
x="1" y="1" scaleContent="true"/>

<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
[Inspectable(defaultValue="flashMap.swf")]
public var mapMovie:String = "file:///C|/FlexWork/flex maps/flashMap.swf";

private function startup():void {
trace("flash component created");
}

public function setLocation(address:String):void {
trace("setting location to: " + address);
mapTalk.addMarker(address);
}
]]>
</mx:Script>
</mx:Box>

3. I can provide for you the SWF. But basically, it is the Yahoo Maps SWC
component wrapped in a very light weight wrapper. see
http://www.asfusion.com/blog/entry/inserting-yahoo-maps-in-a-flex-2-application
If you give me an email address, I will send you all my sources (no problem
with that).

4. The odd thing about this is, the current sequence that I use (only doing
thing in MXML (not design mode) and then compiling the item - Allows this
file to work. From then on, I seem to be able even to use Design Mode. It
seems to be some sort of race condition with doing the first compile from
Design Mode. (probably if it was not an autoload this would work. But even
if I can hack around this, this is probably something you guys want to look
into. It should not be possible to crash FB2 over and over).

I'm having a similar problem (I'm on Mac OS 10.6 though).

It seems that for some reason design view will cause the program to crash. I should mention that I imported a project I started using the Flash Catalyst Beta2, which might have something to do w/ it. Not sure... Iknow this is vague, sorry.

in the forum........

for me it is getting crashed regularly like per day i restarted the flexbuilder minimum 20 to 25 times

please let me know the solution asap.......
