The difference would be enormous. C++ would be many many times faster.
A few years ago we also had problems with speed in Director. Hense the reason why we created the products DLLBinder and DLLBinder Pro
Now we create the project in Director with Lingo and work out where the bottlenecks are. We then re-write those bits in C++ and compile to a DLL which we can then call from Lingo.
The Minds Eye
I've just made a simple test, where I run a repeat loop with a single if/else check and one floating point math operation. Running this loop 500 million times takes 4 minutes and 12 seconds using Lingo in a Director Projector, while it takes less than 6 seconds using a program built with C++ (with the Visual C++ compiler and default settings). This is more than 40 times faster! For the record: I'm using Win XP SP2 on a Pentium 4 @ 2.86 GHz with an 865PE MB chipset.
