    Destroy a component?

The Flex documentation for the returnChild method of the Container class says: "Removes a child DisplayObject from the child list of this Container. The removed child will have its -parent- property set to -null-. The child will still exist unless explicity destroyed. If you add it to another container, it will retain its last known state."

So my question is, how to you explicitly destroy a component...? Are there (secret) destructor methods in Flex that have somehow slipped through my fingers this whole time...? Is it something very obvious that I'm somehow missing?
