Treat your string as a space delimited list. Decide how many words you want to display, and take it from there.
Thank you very much. That was a clever idea. However, I couldn't figure out how to limit the number of items to display. I kept getting errors claiming that I was using a disallowed group of attributes. This code works, but displays the entire string. I tried placing a maxrows on the cfoutput, but that didn't work.

Following up on Dan's comment, first truncate your string using Left( ). Then treate your string as a space-delimited list and delete the last list element. See below.
