Can a corrupt preferences file make Flash wierd

I've learned recently that odd behavior in both Photoshop and Illustrator can caused by a corrupt preferences file.
I'm wondering if the same might be true of Flash 8. We've experienced odd behavior in Flash 8 that Flash tech support can't solve (problems like extremely slow performance when dragging anchor points, and anchor points on locked layers moving when anchor points on unlocked layers are moved).

So I wonder if anyone has heard of a corrupt preferences file causing odd behavior in Flash 8?

      Thanks for any thoughts.
