Hey! why won't my external casts download?

    toby1brace
When I use downloadnething, the external cast just doesn't appear.

Is it because I'm using the free trial 30 day version?

      All other files download OK.

Any netError() returned? Can you provide a URL? You're running this from
a projector and not Shockwave, right?

          Probably unrelated

Bad or no MIME-type set on the server for cct/cst/cxt?

            Hi,

Are you publishing as shockwave or a projector? (downloadnething wont work with Shockwave).

Assuming its a projector, are you monitoring the download? This way you can check for errors (wrong url for the file etc).

if you are getting error 4165, and you are absolutely sure the url is correct (you can download the file with a browser) and the download location is valid and writable, then you might be encountering a weird (possible) bug I have noticed on an OSX server running Apache (where certain files just refuses to download - even though you can download them via a browser. It might have something to do with ownship/permissions on the server).

PS - if you want a demo (and some classes/scripts) for downloading a list of files - check out http://www.lingoworkshop.com/Articles/downloading_files.php

(err - just noticed - that articles is missing - I'll re-upload it this afternoon)

Wow. Never thought of MIME types.
i kind of doubt it though, since my host is godaddy, which is very big hosting service.
              Will check though.
              thanks.

Hi luke. Yes I am getting neterror 'file not found'
And it is a projector, and the browser and FTP download it fine.
                Also, check this:
If I change the file extension of the file on the server to .txt
it downloads fine! Then I just change it back to .cst once downloaded
and it works fine as a cast.
Don't want to do this though.
                I think you're right. It's a bug.
And I think maybe my 30 day version is not quite standard.
If you know what I mean.
I'll have to check that one
                Thanks for feedback.

Did you try working in a folder called dswMedia? Google that. Or make a
folder called dswmedia on your desktop and copy your work files in there.
Open, save, publish your shockwave and then try it. It's the old dswmedia
                  trick.
