    GIF and loadMovie()

    BernardoLira
      Hi all.

I'm a rookie using Flash, and I need to loadMovie a GIF file.

When using loadMovie() with JPG file it works fine, but when file is GIF it doesn't load. I cannot change the file format but need to dynamically load those files.

Any hints will be very appreciated.
      Thanks in advance

          Hi,

simple, you cannot load GIF in any version of flash except Flash 8. Flash 8 support also png file and progresive JPG.

So you only have 2 choices:
          1- using jpg image format
          2- switch to Flash 8

I know its weird that earlier version of Flash does not support GIF and PNG loading but at least now Flash 8 do.

            Thanks, butcho.

Upgrading to 8 seems to be the way. BTW, I don't suppose there is a patch to solve this "omission".

Please note, this should read Flash 8 *or higher*. The current version
of the Flash Player is 9, and it supports all of 8's features, pluse more.
              ;)

There is no patch. Flash Players 7 and below are what they are, and the
Flash MX 2004 (aka 7) IDE is what it is. There are a number of open source,
free alternative to the Adobe Flash IDE (see http://osflash.org), so that
              may help you out.
