Have you looked at http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flex/2/docs/00000570.html? You might be trying to do something more complicated than this, though.
Also, you might take a peek at the RichTextEditor.as source code (in the frameworks\source\mx\controls directory) to get an idea of how things work.
OK, thanks! One more question, do you know if its a violation of the license to modify these componnents? I dont know why it would but I figure i would ask.
I'm not a lawyer, so you might want to check into this before betting your business on it, but my reading of Section 2.1.1 of the license agreement seems to allow this.
You should not copy the Rich Text Editor source and modify it, whether it is legal or not. You'll get yourself in a bind if we change the component in some future release - you won't be compatible any longer.
You can extend the component and override public and protected methods to suit your needs. It sounds like you may just need to create a new skin for the RTE.
