    Flash web site

    Level 7
      Flash 8

      I am trying to create a simple flash web site.

      I need to do the following:

      Have a list of button links along the left hand side
      When I click on a button play a swf within the screen to the right.

      What is the syntax to load and play a swf in a certain position?

      Cheers

          Create a place holder movie clip and place it on the stage. Give it an
          instance name of placeholder. You can load all of your swfs from these
          buttons into this placeholder clip.

          On the main timeline, put the following actionscript:

          //instance name of the first button in your list of buttons, my_btn1
          my_btn1.onRelease=function(){
          placeholder.loadMovie("swfName1.swf")
          //place the clip where ever you want on the stage
          placeholder._x= 200;
          placeholder._y=250;
          }
          //for button two, name it my_btn2
          my_btn2.onRelease=function(){
          placeholder.loadMovie("swfName2.swf")
          placeholder._x= 200;
          placeholder._y=250;
          }

          //and so on.

            I have converted a text box to a symbol & action script called symbol 1

            i have the code:

            on (release) {
            placeholder.loadMovie("parking1.swf")
            //place the clip where ever you want on the stage
            placeholder._x= 200;
            placeholder._y=250;
            }

            **Warning** The linkage identifier 'Symbol 1' was already assigned to the
            symbol 'Symbol 1', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'Symbol 1', since
            linkage identifiers must be unique.

            What am I missing here please?

            Cheers

              Forgive me for stepping in... I have a question, please.

              I'm absolutely new to Flash and ActionScript2 so I'm not even sure I know where to begin.

              Is this script one that would resolve problems I have with my navigation not showing up in Netscape, Safari and Oprah? (I have the same problem with the button at the top of the page that gives the option to turn off the sound ) These are OK in IE and in Firefox. but they don't even show up in the other browsers.

              Is this an ActionScript issue? Or is it specific to Flash? I do understand that Microsoft did some massive changes that affected how Flash works with Active
              X and I've tried to follow instructions to resolve this. But this has me stumped.

              If you want to see how I have it now, it's at http://www.creativeoptions.com/CafeLaguardiaWest/main.html

              Thanks.
