Is there any other way of referencing existing instances on
the stage besides using the "static" syntax:
this.myObject.aProperty = X ;
I need to iterate through a lot of instances on the stage and
would like to use a variable to pass the name of the instance I am
referencing. I've been searching my books and online documents for
an hour wihout finding an answer.

and want to dynamically reference them without giving it an
instance name, use the code below. Flash must give a movieclip on
stage a default name (“instance1”,
“instance2”, etc.). This code will work perfectly fine
but it’s uncommon to reference them by their default name.
But it really depends on the situation.
