    CSS and Background Images

      I am trying to create a page using CSS. I have a background image that tiles like I want it to. Here is the CSS:

      * {
      padding: 0;
      Margin: 0;
      background-image: url(images/background.jpg);
      background-repeat: repeat-y;
      background-position:center;
      }

      I want some of my various other divs to lay on top of this background but have a different background color that overlays the page background image. Instead of taking the background color I specify, the main page background above shows through. For example below, the dark brown background doesn't show:

      #nav {
      margin-left: 4px;
      width: 802px;
      height: 26px;
      background-color:#211400;
      }

      Thanks in advance for helping.
