Is this question just too simple to answer?
while I'm not the real expert here, I think I'm ok to answer and help you out.
The Database NULL / NOT NULL allowance is database only related. Thus if you have NULL value there, it is ok to submit nothing to that field. If on the other hand you chose NOT NULL, then something must be put in there when you submit the form. The Validation "required / not required" cannot override the databases setting. Hope this helps you through.
So simply, is it okay for table columns associated with form fields that are NOT required to have a "Null" status in the database?

Thanks for your responses guys. I guess I've only seen "NOT NULL" in every table column example I've seen.
