In addition to the new 24mm T/S, there is this 17mm T/S. I'll be very interested in seeing just how well this one performs, as it will be by far the widest tilt-shift available for 35mm format.

For a 17mm lens to have the coverage to allow T/S on a 24x36mm frame is simply extraordinary (I bet the price is as well).

That sure is some design achievement.

That's what I was thinking too Fred. It's hard enough to get lenses that wide that don't vignette. The U.S. list price I think is $2500, which seems quite reasonable to me. With the economy the way it is, it's going to be hard to justify that one right off the bat, but the 24, yes.

I would say if the 24 mm is improved and I will test it and the 17mm has the right amount of shift and it does look like it has the shift from the sample image and when I test it it works out to be true then I would purchase a 5D Mark II and both those lenses unless Nikon comes out with a 17 mm lens.

As I will point out they do listen do they not and it is something that i have discussed for years and everyone has said ridiculous, who needs it and so on and so on.

I bet they did this because of the things I have told my suppliers and have complained about for all this time.

I love it when it happens.

One problem , depends on what they mean by this which indicates vignetting, it is how much and at what point does it occur. But if they have this right i will buy. I will keep the D3. Maybe!

Diagonal Angle of View
104° (without tilt or shift)

If I could do this shot landscape it would have been great for my needs it is ok for my needs now but it would be much better landscape instead of a cropped portrait.

Lincoln Center does want me to publish this and a few others of this building without getting their consent. Imagine. LOL!

Peter thanks for posting very important for my purposes. I wonder if Jeff Schewe had anything to do with the development of this lens?

Doesn't matter how they came about it it is something I have advocated for years so things are looking up.

$2500 is a steal for this but I would have like to have seen the tilt gauge.

thanks again.

Ah, you beat me to it Peter! :-)

I got the email from Canon this morning and just posted something in another thread. I've been away from this part of the forums while trying to catch up on client stuff.

                  Linda,

If you can trust the MTF charts that have been published, these look like very nice lenses indeed. The implications of a very good 17mm with movements for not just architecture, but for product and landscape are enormous. Plus the close focus is something like .8 ft. These will be two to save for - along with the 24LII.

                  Okay, now back to printing.

the 9 inch thing is good like the Nikor 24 MM PC so I am hoping that Nikor intriduces their version with a six inch kind of thing for a really close up effectiveness.

However they are basically designed for architecture and even if they are not you need sufficient shift for the lens to worth something. and a 17mm T/S lens' capabilities will seldom be useful for much other then architecture. However if they made their 24mm and 17mm T?S lens as good as Nikon did with theirs then it will have many more uses even without using the adjustments.

I would rent one first to make certain you are comfortable working with such a lens.

Especially the 17mm. You in particular Linda that is a lot of money for a lens you may never use.

This thread did not go quite the way I expected it.

One thing i think I wonder over to the lounge the other day by accident and noticed if i am not mistaken that Nick was there as well and he seemed the same there as well.

LH was the same as well.

A few others but they were not reacting to anything I had wrote as I do not normally post there actually it was the only tie I posted there and that was an accident.I wonder what the cause of this is?

Any time I end in the wrong Adobe forum inadvertently is because I did a Google search and one of the hits directed me there. Sometime a forum search here will have the same result.

I'm not in a position to buy a lens like this, nor feel the need to, at this time. However, I do enjoy looking at them.

They can be valuable if you have the specific use that they are intended but having just for fun is a rich persons game.

I know several amateurs that have such equipment and when you talk to them it is clear they have no idea what it is for and for that matter what any of the professional equipment they own is for but they have it anyway.

But for you at some point in time you will begin to say to yourself I wish I could displace this composition I wish I had less foreground and more sky without the buildings or room being angled liked that when you get to that point then you will say I wonder if one of those tilt shift lenses would work, and you will ask someone at the guild if you can borrow theirs, you fool around with it and then you will be able to make a more experienced decision.

Also the $2,500 street value is probably going to be the price. If it has as much shift as it should then it is worth much more then that.

After looking at it for a couple of years, I finally bought the 100mm Macro a few months back. It's amazingly sharp for an inexpensive lens. I don't have much time to play with it though as websites have been keeping me so busy.

Lot easier on the back then photography.

So true. More money in websites too. I still love it though, as long as it's in spurts and not too demanding. Most gigs that come to me get referred to other photographers in the area. I do take some photo jobs, particularly those that are related to a design job I'm working on. It's nice to be able to have a little variety from time to time.
