    Closing Acrobat

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to create a script or a menu item that will close Acrobat and not just the pdf?

Yes, it's called File->Exit, and the shortcut to it is Ctrl+Q...

Seriously though, you can use app.execMenuItem("Quit"), but you need to make sure you have the correct permissions to do so.

This is security blacklisted in Acrobat 8+, you will need to edit the registry on client machines to allow Acrobat JavaScript privileges to execute the Quit menu item, or put it in a trusted function in a folder-level JavaScript.

You also need to know when it's being called. You can't call it from a button or similar event, as it will cause the application to exit in the middle of the event bubble which will throw an exception.
