This is quite possible, but you would need to buy server software to
create a PDF from your database. Acrobat cannot be used for this. What
sort of programming model are you looking for?
Thanks for the reply..
I am working with PHP in a Joomla/Linux/Apache setting..
Hope this helps...
Aandi can you recommend software that will accomplish this task?
I am also very interested in this solution. We are deploying a work flow that will need to build an agenda from a series of word documents or forms and then combine the associated documents into a PDF. Page Numbering after the creation of the PDF master document would also be a plus (if we can associate it back to the index). Supporting documentation for the master document will be anything from a standard word doc to maps or pictures. Any help would be really appreciated..
Can anyone recommend software that will accomplish this task?
If on a local area network look at "ADBC" for Arcro Form or "DataConnection" for LiveCycle Designer forms. Adobe has posted documentation for how to do this and some examples.
If a web application you will need a script page to interface to the database.
Because data tables and elements vary with each Database you will have to write all the code to move the data to and from the appropriate fields or tables and rows. Both ADBC and Data Connections work with SQL data bases.
Check out the Net.SOAP.* methods (just SOAP.* in Acrobat 7).
PDL I think SOAP is over my head at the moment
Geo if I understand correctly LiveCycle only pulls data into a form?
There would be no way of formatting the information...
Aandi Inston you said it is possible but I would need software.. What software are you refering to?
Ah ... I believe I see what myhcc is asking.
You're not looking to fill in the fields of an already existing PDF, but rather pull data from a database and create a PDF from that data? If that is the case, Aandi is correct - you would either need some software to do that or it would require a good deal of programming.
There are many programming solutions for creating PDF files. Which one
is the best depends on your budget, your programming skills, prefered
language, programming environment, and licensing needs.
There are several parallel approaches to making a PDF from a program.
* Creating a PDF with graphical descriptions. "I want a box 3 inches
wide and 1 inch deep, 2.3 inches from the top, and with a white
* Designing a PDF with some existing software, adding form fields and
giving them names; then having software to fill in the forms "Put the
text 'San Franciso' in the field called 'City'".
* Converting other formats to PDF. "I've made an XSO:FO file with my
layout and text in it, make a PDF now".
* Printing to PDF. "I have a document and I can print it: OK print to
Have the feature in docman so that all the PDF documents with embedded code are replaced with a unique value pertaining to the logged-in user.
Anybody there to help me?
