What is 'simplified field area'?
May be something wrong with the script.
under the text field tool, the upper tabs, click on calculate. The middle option is the simplified field notation. I entered the following -
Hoping this would Multiply the number entered in Text53 by 2 first then subtract the sum by the number entered in Text54.
I am a complete novice at writing scripts!

The simplified field notation is correct. It works for me.
Your saved your work, closed Adobe, re-opened the file and the script ran fine?

Thanks for the help...I must have something else in the form I created that is causing the problem.
I have the exact same problem, Ken. However, if I just save the PDF, then there is no problem, but if I choose to save it as another file or if I copy the PDF to another location (be it on my hard drive or an external one), then the script won't work. Opening the properties of the form elements, I see that the same script is there, but it won't work if I don't "refresh" the code by first cutting it, closing the scripting area, opening the scripting area and then pasting the code again. Disturbing, since I have a lot of form fields with code...
