I did it!
The change didn't seem to take effect immediately, as after I closed the preferences I was still getting the annoying popups, but several seconds later they stopped.
It would be nice if the UI was consistent and referred to these as tool tips, since that's how these types of popups are referred to in other apps.
Interesting. I can't seem to get them to happen. So what's different between my setup and Fred's?
What settings do you have for the two choices under Help in Preferences? I have them both off.
Ah, James beat me to it.
My bad. I should have been more specific. It might be useful if it only popped up when you were actually hovering over a variable, but it pops up no matter where your mouse is in the script window, showing the value of the last variable that it knows about.
Ah got it. Yes, those pop-ups are a bit annoying aren't they.
Interesting, until you mentioned it I was never really bothered by it,
but now I see the tool tips come up real real fast. As soon as you stop
moving your mouse a tool tip pops up.
Anyway, it doesn't seem there is any way to turn it off.
I've got that turned off, too. I thought James was talking about
hovering over things like the execute script button, etc. I didn't
realize he was talking about the code.
Actually, it would be "Help Tips" not "Tool Tips" in the case of ESTK.
But, I think you're referring to the "Enable Auto Completion" option under the Help preferences, which opens a list of code suggestions as you're editing your script. Just uncheck its checkbox to turn it off. There is no way to turn off Help Tips for the UI widgets, but maybe in ESTK CS4 there will be. ;)
>those pop-ups are a bit annoying aren't they.
Understatement of the year.
