Automatic converting footnotes

I have received from a customer a txt-file dat should be converted to an Indesign. But in the text there are footnotes included between bracket (<>).

example:
this is the text blabla <footnote>. This is <footnote> some other text.

So al the footnotes are between brackets.

Is there a way tot automaticaly convert what's between < and > to footnotes and than delete the brackets?

There are about 800 footnotes in the document? I don't want to do it manually...

Can some help me with a script?

Thanks in advance!
