Given two stories, strory1 and story2, you can merge them as follows:
>story2.texts.move (LocationOptions.after, story1.insertionPoints[-1]);
By using .texts rather than .contents you keep all formatting intact. You probably want to add a paragraph mark at the end of story1 before moving story2.
You can also link the last textframe of the first story with the first textframe of the second story:
>story1.textContainers[story1.textContainers.length-1].nextTextFrame = story2.textContainers;

Right -- that's the better solution as it doesn't leave any empty text frames.
