License Issues w/ Flex SDK Binaries

Hi, I want to release an Open Source Project under the GPLv3 that relies on the "unmodified" Flex SDK. All I have done is download the Open Source Flex SDK and delete folders that were not necessary in my project (such as ant etc). Can anyone say if I have committed a big No-NO?? Thanks

If you used the Open Source Flex SDK you are OK.<br /><br /><br />On 3/19/08 6:41 AM, "Billy Schoenberg" <member@adobeforums.com> wrote:<br /><br />A new discussion was started by Billy Schoenberg in<br /><br />General Discussion --<br />  License Issues w/ Flex SDK Binaries<br /><br />Hi, I want to release an Open Source Project under the GPLv3 that relies on the "unmodified" Flex SDK.  All I have done is download the Open Source Flex SDK and delete folders that were not necessary in my project (such as ant etc).  Can anyone say if I have committed a big No-NO?? Hi,

i want to package a project with the Open Source Flex SDK.

However, recent Open Source Flex SDK's claim in their readme.htm files that they are governed by the Adobe Flex license.

Could somebody please shed some light on what Adobe's current policy is about an Open Source Flex SDK governed by the MPL?

I am currently rather clueless if the Open Source Flex SDK packages were just bundled with the wrong readme by mistake, or if the idea of an Flex SDK under the MPL is being abandoned by Adobe.

              Clarification is most appreciated.

              Thanks,
              Gunnar

                hi,
I would need a little more details too :)

just to be sure I'm not making any faux-pas (mistake)

I got a project under MPL and I just want to redistribute
one binary file compiled from the Flex SDK: asc.jar

is this allowed ? or is it preferable to point people
to the Flex SDK to download the asc.jar ?

                cheers,
                zwetan

Hi guys,<br /><br />The Open Source SDK is under the MPL.  I just got back from vacation and haven't checked the zips, but it's possible that we screwed up the build system and are dropping the wrong readme into the package.  If you look at our source you'll see a collateral directory that has the readmes for the different zips, I think the wrong one is picked up.<br /><br />If you take from the OS SDK you should be all good.  And yes, you can include just the asc.jar.<br /><br />Matt<br /><br /><br />On 8/31/08 6:59 PM, "zwetan" <member@adobeforums.com> wrote:<br /><br />A new message was posted by zwetan in<br /><br />General Discussion --<br />  License Issues w/ Flex SDK Binaries<br /><br />hi,<br />I would need a little more details too :)<br /><br />just to be sure I'm not making any faux-pas (mistake)<br /><br />I got a project under MPL and I just want to redistribute<br />one binary file compiled from the Flex SDK: asc.jar<br /><br />is this allowed ? or is it preferable to point people<br />to the Flex SDK to download the asc.jar ?<br /><br />cheers,<br />zwetan<br /><br /><br />------------------------------------------------------<br />View/reply at <a href=http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?13@@.59b4bb37/3><br />Replies by email are OK.<br />Use the unsubscribe form at <a href=http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?280@@.59b4bb37!folder=.3c060fa1> to cancel your email subscription.

                      Hi Matt,

I am a bit confused - we also want to GPLv3 our application using Flex, however we understand that the GPLv3 is incompatible with the MPL....?

The GPLv3 says: 5c) You must license the entire work, as a whole, under this License to anyone who comes into possession of a copy. This License will therefore apply, along with any applicable section 7 additional terms, to the whole of the work, *and all its parts*, regardless of how they are packaged.

Wasn`t that the whole purpose of the tri-license for the Tamarin contribution?

                      any help here?
                      thanks
                      Malcolm

We did not release the Flex SDK under the tri-license, we did it only under MPL.  If your application is just the output of Flex then you don't have a license problem (as the output code is not affected by the MPL).  If you are looking to redistribute the SDK itself you would have a problem, we are not GPL compatible in that regard.<br /><br />I'm on vacation so can't really answer more license questions right now but will when I return.<br /><br />Matt<br /><br /><br />On 11/20/08 7:47 AM, "mBain" <member@adobeforums.com> wrote:<br /><br />A new message was posted by mBain in<br /><br />General Discussion --<br />  License Issues w/ Flex SDK Binaries<br /><br />Hi Matt,<br /><br />I am a bit confused - we also want to GPLv3 our application using Flex, however we understand that the GPLv3 is incompatible with the MPL....?<br /><br />The GPLv3 says: 5c) You must license the entire work, as a whole, under this License to anyone who comes into possession of a copy.
