    Identifying Xtras

    TMano
      Hi all,

      I'm new in Director and have had to edit some files I didn't build. When I try to create a projector file, it keeps asking for Xtras. I downloaded some media-player xtras from Star-soft but they don't seem to help.
      How do I identify what Xtras does a particular file use?

          In the Message window, type:

          put the movieXtraList

          This will tell you what Asset Xtras are required by the movie.

          If you are using Script Xtras (like FileIO), these will not appear in the list. My approach with Script Xtras is to use the Xtras Broker movie script which you can find at http://nonlinear.openspark.com/tips/scripts/xtras/. This includes an XtraMissing() handler. In my prepareMovie() handler, I maintain a list of all the Script Xtras that I use in the project, and ask if any of these are missing:

          on prepareMovie()
          vXtras = [#fileio, #FileXtra4]
          if XtraMissing(vXtras) then
          halt
          end if
          end

          When I run my projector, this immediately lets me know which Script Xtras I have forgotten to include in the Xtras folder. You must be pro-active though: you must add the name of each xtra to the list as soon as you use it while authoring.
