1. Re: No preview in ACR
Curt Y Oct 8, 2008 6:48 AM (in response to hrh gracie)A lot of problems with the preview working properly in Bridge is tied to the video card. Unless you have a real speedy card you might go to edit/preferences/advanced and check "use software rendering". See if that helps. -

hrh gracie Oct 9, 2008 8:25 PM (in response to hrh gracie)Wow, so I need something FASTER than a 256MB MSI 8600 GT PCI Express card? To do basic photo display? -

John Joslin Oct 10, 2008 1:18 AM (in response to hrh gracie)Up to CS4 I don't think it's the video card since, as far as I know, the GPU is not used. It's CPU and RAM.
But "Use Software Rendering" does help. -
4. Re: No preview in ACR
Curt Y Oct 10, 2008 6:10 AM (in response to hrh gracie)Adobe has acknowledged it can be a video card thing, but performance seems to vary depending on the specific card. It even seems likely that the video card's characteristics determines whether the ACR edits will display in the thumbnail or not. Some users see them some don't. Perhaps CS4 will solve these problems?
I have a quad core CPU with 3 gigs of RAM and still have to use software rendering to get the Preview to work properly. My video card only has 128mb, and is choke point for system. -

akribie Oct 13, 2008 4:57 AM (in response to hrh gracie)I have an NVidia 8800GTX with 760mb RAM on board and ACR works just fine with only 2Gb main RAM under XP Pro. -
6. Re: No preview in ACR
hrh gracie Oct 15, 2008 7:59 AM (in response to hrh gracie)I'll try the software rendering, but good grief, if it requires a video card with that much horsepower and memory (not to mention the $225-250 price tag) just to get decent performance from a photo editor - not some game where I need 100fps, but a lousy 2D photo editor, the people at Adobe SERIOUSLY need to go back to the drawing board and start testing with some real-world equipment that normal people use. -

akribie Oct 15, 2008 1:47 PM (in response to hrh gracie)I didn't say it NEEDED a big card, only that it worked with one. Where the limit is, I wouldn't know. -

John Joslin Oct 16, 2008 6:17 AM (in response to hrh gracie)Mine works fine with 128MB VRAM.
