Sounds like a damaged download. Try downloading the ACR plug-in again.
>File Formats folder from which I just had moved the existing 4.4 file.
Where did you put it? Hopefully you deleted it altogether.
Thanks a lot for a very fast and correct answer. No, I didn't delete it right away, first I wanted to make sure 4.5 worked correctly. Now that I know it does, 4.4 will be deleted.
Thanks a lot again, Ramón.
I can't upgrade to camera raw 4.5 on CS3. It gets part way through installing and then says it can't finish it. I have downloaded it myself from the web and put the file where it says to but I can't delete the old one. Help.
You are aware that Photoshop MUST NOT be running during the upgrade, right?
Details about your OS would help.
Thanks for your help. Yes I first tired to upgrade when PS was open and Adobe Updater asked me to upgrade and it said to close PS so I did. When that attempt failed several times I downloaded it from adobe.com and I didn't want to get rid of the existing camera raw until I was sure the new one worked so I tried to move the existing one out of the folder adobe designated the downloaded file to go in and I couldn't move it. Maybe I should just download it and let it replace existing file. Worse thing would be I have to reinstall PS.
My OS is XP.
I don't rely on the Adobe updater for Camera Raw. It's simply easier to download and then manually install it. I put an Adobe folder in My Documents, and inside that folder I have a shortcut to the folder where ACR needs to be installed. I just drag the new plug-in to that folder shortcut, choose to replace the existing one, and it's done.
Thanks for your advice Jim. It finally updated with no problem so I didn't have to try your solution.
