Do you get any type of error message?
No, Photoshop opens, but with no image?
Does it happen on all your CR2 files, or just a specific one?
>Any help would be appreciated,
What OS? Where did you install Camera Raw 5.1? What happens when you simply double-click a file in Photoshop? Or drag and drop the raw file on the PS icon?
Either Bridge is not passing the file to Photoshop or Photoshop can't access the Camera Raw plug-in...
I am new to using photoshop for editing my photography first of all.
I just did what you asked, and pulled a cr2 file on to the desktop Photoshop Icon, and it opened Camera raw, and this time after doing a fast edit (crop and brightness) I selected "open" and It opened the image in Photoshop.
Previously I opended Bridge, then right clicked and selected open in Camera Raw, edited, and then selected open and it did not open the image in photoshop although Photoshop did open.
So am I going about this the wrong way?
What camera are you using to produce the CR2?
Also, in Photoshop Go to Help>About Plug-ins, and report the version of Camera Raw that you see installed.
-If you see 5.1, please answer the following question:
Where did you install Camera Raw 5.1?
-If not, go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4060 and follow the instructions available in the Camera Raw 5.1 ReadMe file on that page.
Canon 1D MarkIII
I installed Camera according to the readme file for V5.1
I associated my CR2 files with Photoshop and know when I double click a CR2 file, Photoshop starts, then Camera Raw opens the image, and now when I click open after editing it opens the image in Photoshop.
My question now would be this.
If I open bridge, the right click to open the image in ACR is this the wrong way of doing things?
As this way of doing it, did not open Photoshop with the image but just Photoshop and no image.
>I installed Camera according to the readme file for V5.1
Please tell us exactly where and what you did with the old version of the ACR plug-in that should have been there, if you in fact had the correct location.
Wait, after reading your last post again, I think I should clarify this:
Photoshop cannot open RAW files; only ACR can. Try right clicking on the thumbnail in Bridge and select Open with > Adobe Camera Raw (not with Photoshop).
If you right-click and select "Open with Photoshop" it will open Photoshop (if necessary) and the image will appear in a Camera Raw window, from where it will open in PS if you click "Open Image".
If this is not happening, try resetting a few preferences.
I saved the old version, just in case I had problems. So I removed the original version, and replaced it with v5.1
I did not try to open the file with Photoshop.
1. Opened bridge and viewed photos
2. Right click in bridge, and selected open with ACR
3. When Camera Raw opened, I edited photo and selected "open"
4. Photoshop opens, but with NO edited photo.
Now I have made a association in the download folder to open with Photoshop, which opens ACR first, then after editing it now works when I select open it opens in Photoshop.
If you read my last post, my quetion is "why does it not open from my method I used originally in Bridge?
I hope this is clear enough.
OK. Now I get you.
If you right-click and select "Open with Camera Raw" it will open in a Camera Raw window, from where, if you click "Open Image", it will open Photoshop (if necessary) and the image will appear.
As before, if this is not happening, try resetting a few preferences.
yes to the last part of your answer, but when photoshop opens it has no image do this way. Sould it? I think yes.
And if so what preferences are you talking about changing?
Thanks in advance
You can host the CR dialog in Br or Ps. Your report is that when hosting in Br, Open into Ps is launching Ps but not opening a document. This does work generally, and should work for you, too.
Is this on Vista64 or Vista32? If Vista64, are you running the x64 Ps or x86 (32 bit) Ps? And also did you install CR for x86 and x64 in their respective locations, if applicable? You can tell the running Ps target by going to Help> System Info... and looking at the first line. It will end in X64 for the 64bit target.
Does it matter if you change the workflow option to OPen Object vs. Open Image?
Similar thing happening to me. I double click a thumbnail in Bridge (JPG or NEF in my case) and it occasionally takes me to Photoshop without opening the image. Happens erratically but often enough to be annoying. Using Bridge 5.2 but also had the problem in 5.0.
Any suggestions would be great.
One thing I noticed with the arrival of CS4 (which was probably the case with CS3 but I never noticed) was that I started having problems opening jpeg files. I think this was caused by installing CS4 and then uninstalling CS3. Firstly, all the file associations got messed up, and, secondly, I started pressing the wrong buttons in an attempt to fix things. In the end I reinstalled CS4, and found that some JPEGs wouldn't open from Bridge at all. These turned out to be ones I hadn't previously edited in Bridge, and this was down to the Camera Raw preferences - which I possibly changed when I was trying to fix the file associations problem.
I've got photoshop CS4 and every image jpeg I try to open is like vertical stripes colors,
maybe I did something wrong???
I've got a mac.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Rosy, please post this in the Photoshop/Mac forum at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ee6b362/ as a new question. It doesn't sound like it is related to Adobe Camera Raw.
>Using Bridge 5.2 but also had the problem in 5.0.
The latest Bridge version is 3.0.
Joe, please also answer Steve's questions regarding what OS and Camera Raw version you have installed.
Pierre, that's not what the man wrote.
Yes, but it is not
difficult to figure out...
He's writing about a Bridge problem (so he says).
This is connected to the issue I am having (thread in the Mac Bridge forum) with the Bridge Tools not working , I see the same behavior as the OP. Bridge 3, Open in ACR, click Open, Ps launches but no image appears.
It completely consistent, none of the Bridge operation that would normally end up in Ps seem to work - photomerge, open as layers, HDR etc.
I've reset prefs, repaired permissions, reinstalled Ps and Br all to no avail.
I'm on Mac but it's the same issue
As a follow up:
If I choose 'Open' in Bridge I get ACR as expected, then if I click Open Image in ACR I do get the image into Ps. If I click 'Open in ACR' in Bridge and then 'Open Image' in ACR I do not get the image in Ps.
Same result but both should work, no?
