    RAW Settings

I want to duplicate a raw file, and have separate camera raw settings for the two files. currently I use the camera raw database to store settings associated with each file.. Is it possible to make photoshop "know" that the two files are different and therefore should have separate settings or do I have to move my workflow over to DNG and store the settings in each dng file ( ia can't stand xmp, it's so heavy when trying to look for stuff in finder)....

On a related topic, if I have tens of thousands of raw images, does this overload teh camera raw database and make it slow.... I find that when using file browser it takes far less time to generate the thumbnails and previews for my new 1ds files with the .tif suffix than it does for my 20d files with their cr2 suffix, would converting to DNG alleviate this if it is the case....
