You are correct...Adobe quits doing updates to apps they no longer ship. Camera Raw 4.6 was the LAST update for Photoshop CS3. So, your choice; update to Photoshop CS4 and get free updates to Camera Raw 5 (already at 5.2 and including your camera) use the 5.2 DNG Converter and keep using Photoshop CS3, get Lightroom 2.2 (when it ships) or use the Canon DPP.
i just purchased CS4 and it is telling me that it does not recognize "this type of file" (a canon 5d MKII RAW file)
the only reason i upgraded was to not have to use the DNG converter. can you help with why it wont recognize my images?
>just purchased CS4
and did you update the Camera Raw plug-in to version 5.2 after installing CS4?
[The version that gets installed by CS4 is already obsolete.]
i just downloaded the update, installed it, quit CS$ and restarted, and i still get the generic thumbnails. i looked in the correct directory and the file was installed properly.
the file in the directory was the old version.
sorry about that.
Did you Purge the Cache through the Tools menu in Bridge for each offending folder?

In Photoshop look in About Plug-in and make sure Camera Raw shows up ONLY ONCE in the list of plug-ins, and that it shows 5.2.
