Are you sure that you have one and only one version of ACR? Is it placed in the correct location?
I've checked and can only find the one copy. I did have 4.1 and have only just downloaded 5.2 as I started to use ACR. I have since found that after conversion I can open a RAW file into PSE's Organizer but I still cannot open a DNG folder and open a DNG file into Organizer or Editor.
Is it placed in the correct location?
If we are both talking about Programs/Photoshop Elements 6.0/Plug-ins/File Format as the correct location ,Yes. If there is a separate plug-in for opening a DNG file as opposed to opening a Raw file into the Organizer and subsequently Editor I'm not so sure then.
Following Barbara and Paige's advice I had downloaded ACR 5.2 as a zipped folder ,moved the original Camera Raw 8BI file out, unzipped the folder and moved 5.2's 8BI file into its place. Should I have moved/downloaded anything else?
ps I have tried opening the files from Windows, right clicking and looking for ACR in the Open With list but it isn't listed.
I had an earlier thread re opening Jpeg with ACR (title should be near to this one) Juergen gave me advice on opening from PSE's Editor- I was trying from Organizer and Window' Open With option. In following his suggestion I realized I can open the DNG files without trouble. I think I was looking for the DNG files in the wrong place. Once found I pulled them into Organizer and Hey Presto got them to open.
Many thanks for your help
Seems that it is the correct spot for elements: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4224
When you said moved the old version out, is it totally out of the Photoshop folder tree?
PE, thanks for the ref to Camera Raw 5.2 Update. Yes I did move it way out of the Elements tree. That I learnt the hard way. If you retain within it fouls things up!
