Hey guys .... I have the same problem on machintos 12" powerbook ...
If you go to Bridge CS3 (22.214.171.1243 vers) in general preferences there is no option
DOUBLE CLICK EDITS CAMERA RAW IN BRIDGE ...... It is just simply disappeared from preferences
WHAT IS GOING ON ???????????????????????
WHY THEY TOOK OFF THIS VERY VERY IMPORTANT OPTION....
resetting preferences does not solve the problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does Camera Raw work in Photoshop CS3? Have you even run Photoshop CS3 yet? Did you start Bridge CS3 after running Photoshop CS3 at least once?
My case is not the only one. There are several posts on various forums over this.
My machine is a PC XPSP2. Raw works fine in PS. There simply are not any menu references to opening in RAW anywhere in Bridge. The menu choice is for PSCS3 only.
The answer to all your guestions is 'yes'
If you check preferences in Bridge CS3 ...in general pref under Behaviour ....
there is simply NO DOUBLE CLICK EDITS CAMREA RAW IN BRIDGE option.......
there is nothing there it is just dissapeared
Somehow Bridge is not detecting the presense of Photoshop CS3, so is not enabling Camera Raw related features. Some users have reported that reseting the Bridge preferences will fix this.
In any case, you might have better luck in the Bridge forum, since that is where the Bridge engineers hang out.
Did you by any chance move the Photoshop icon out of its folder? Or the Photoshop folder out of the root Applications folder? Or have you created subfolders inside the Applications folder?
Any of those actions would be foolish to do.
This last poster, Peter Martyn, seems to have a peculiar copy of Bridge, as per post #1. Note the build number:
>Bridge CS3 (126.96.36.1993 vers).
He also posted here:

Did you follow Mr. Knoll's suggestion in post #5:
>Some users have reported that resenting the Bridge preferences will fix this.
To reset your preferences, hold Command+Option+Shift IMMEDIATELY after launching Bridge.
I have tried everything and obviously i am not a moron :))) to move folders all around!
SO FULL STOP!!
2.OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AS WELL
3.DOUBLE CLICK EDITS CAMERA RAW IN BRIDGE IS MISSING FROM GEN PREFERENCES
4.I THOUGHT ADOBE KNOWS IT AND KNOWS THE SOLUTION AS WELL ???!!!!???? :(
5.WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE A PECULIAR VERSION ???????JUST CHECK YOURS !!!!!!
I AM SURE IS GONNA BE 184.108.40.2063 THAT IS THE LATEST ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6.WAITING FOR THE SOLUTION BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!
BIG THANKS FOR THE GUY WHO FINDS OUT WHAT TO DO
I am in Windows with a pc. My version of Bridge CS3 is 220.127.116.115. I received my CS3 upgrade (box) from Adobe, on the 17 April 07. I have no problems at all and everything works very smoothly and fast.
First of all, stop shouting. Turn off your caps lock key.
That is definitely NOT the latest version of Bridge.
>My version of Bridge CS3 is 18.104.22.1685
Yes, that sounds reasonable.
are you guys on windows???????????????????????????????????????????????????????
i have clearly stated that I am on MAC
No, I'm on Mac. Have used Macs for the last 23 years.
I am on a PC and my ver no is 975--and it will not show any of the RAW menu items, including the RAW Preferences under the edit menu.
Sorry I can't help on Windows. :/
Just out of curiosity, what flavor of Windows are you on?
XP SP2 2gigs ram.
Double check to make sure you have the Camera Raw plug-in...
It should be in root\program files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS3\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi The creation date should be about March 2nd.
If you do...then there is something wrong with Bridge...if you don't then there is something wrong with your install.
Did you have the CS3 beta installed, did you uninstall AND run the CS3Clean Script before installing?
I think my problem might have been in using the clean up script the first time I installed. There are warnings with it that there is no guarantee! I used level 1 only.
To make a long story short, I used a True Image Acronis backup of my boot drive to restore my system to pre PS CS3 install. Then, I used the windows standard uninstall procedure on the Beta Bridge and CS3 PS beta, ran a registry cleaner, but DID NOT use the clean up script this time.
This time it worked! The first time install , of course, may have just been faulty. All is well now. Thanks for your help.
I had this problem too after Installing the Preview version of Premiere Pro CS3. Inside of CS3 Bridge, there was no setting to open raw files in Photoshop vs ACR. PS CS3 was NOT installed. I did not realize that you needed PS CS3 to run PP CS3 and Bridge CS3. I had PS CS2 installed.
So I pay for the PSCS3 upgrade, install PSCS3, and the bridge is back to opening my raw files in ACR (as I want it do to). I guess that this is Adobe's way to get us to upgrade photoshop? But I was planning on waiting until all of the video apps were released first so that I could buy the complete collection.
Now I haven't got CS3 yet, as I've not decided which version to go for [I want InDesign, Fireworks and Contribute, but to get all of those I need to also buy all the production studio stuff, which I don't need/want].
So I've been limited to playing with colleagues/friends installs, who have gone for it. Now I've noticed two things that varied between the setups I tried with Bridge [I couldn't wait to start playing]. One has ACR missing in preferences, like in this and other linked thread and also no borders on thumbies, Whereas the other worked fine with Raw and had borders on thumbies. !?!
To add some more info to above observations.
I went and found out that the version of Bridge that is 'missing' ACR is the latest version - .975. Don't know what the other one is, both are PC BTW. Not my installs, so harder to troubleshoot/give all the info.
ACR is installed in the correct place and if you open a raw file by doubling clicking/Enter key it opens into PS - via ACR!?? Yet won't give ACR as an opening option.
This is on a fresh install of Windows with no prior Adobe products let alone the PS Beta.
In prefs, the General tab also has a blank area where RAW prefs should be found. I think he may be doing a reinstall.
Maybe I'll defer purchase until the bug fixes come out. Gives me more time to save up as well.
I had the same problem. Simple solution, go into photoshop, click on the bridge icon in the top tool bar. This should tell bridge that photoshop is there and set the menu up accordingly...
Hope that helps,
Entering Bridge thru Photoshop worked for me. I'm running version .975 on Windows XP.
I had the same problem and tried to open raw files in PS3 right after I installed the suite. Nothing worked until I opened Bridge and then a raw file which worked right away. then i went into PS3 and it opened the files just fine. So, just open your first raw file with Bridge the first time you start working in PS3 and the problem should disappear. Now PS3 opens raw files without any problem.
My problem is a little different. After I initially installed the suite, I was able to open jpgs and crws in bridge, in acr. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I was not able to use apple-r, and the menu item "open in camera raw" disappeared. I've tried everything on every forum I could find, but no luck. If I want to open a raw file in acr, I have to either open directly from photoshop, or I double-click the image in bridge and then it opens photoshop. I can't use acr through bridge anymore. And yes, my copy is legal.
Two things to try: Go to the Tools menu in Bridge and Purge the Cache. Re-set or trash your Preferences as well.
It still won't work. It opens them in PS3 from Bridge...no menu option. I purged the cache, reset the preferences, everything. Nothing.
I have tried all the recomendations and still cant access camer raw from Bridge.
Have you tried a completely clean install from scratch--OS + CS3?
That will work for sure, but it means starting over with your computer OS install from scratch--a completely clean full format of your disk before starting.
There is obviously something on there that conflicts with it now. The same thing happened to a guy I work with. He tried for two weeks. I had the same problem on one of my machines. I simply started from zero, and so did he. Works perfectly. On my other machine it went right on without a hitch along with the other twenty or so apps that were already on there! Go figure.
Look at it this way, if you want ACR 4 in Bridge, starting over will probably take about one tenth the time you've spent trying to troubleshoot it!
I was having the same issue - no ACR from within Bridge.
I had the beta installed but didn't use the clean script. Since using just the uninstaller let me install the final, I figured everything was good. Evidently not.
I ran the clean script and reinstalled CS3 and now everything is as it should be. Reinstalling the OS is probably overkill.
We ran the script at Level 1, and it made no difference. In your case it worked, so it is definitely worth trying before doing the OS over.
What level did you run the script at? Did you have Acrobat 8 pro on?
we figured that it migh have been that, but no proof whatsoever.
For sure, there have been numerous different install problems with CS3!
What do you mean by "ran the clean script?" I'm having the same problem with both my laptop and my PC and am out of other options.
There was a CS3Clean for Macintosh. Not sure if it's still available.
It was necessary only if you had ever had the public CS# beta installed on your Mac.
Isn`t there a simple registry entry to solve the problem? The engineers could tell us, I guess.
OK, get this... (listen up Adobe folks... must be a bug...)
I can open only SOME of my .ORF files in Camera Raw from Bridge. The others don't show the menu item when they are selected. Select them all, and only some open in ACR.
The ones that DON'T open in raw, seem to be the ones I just dropped into that folder in Windows (Vista) from the memory card ***while Bridge had the directory open***. Even a refresh doesn't work. Not a Bridge shutdown and restart.
BUT, they open from the Windows File Manager (right click choose PS CS3 and ACR opens). WEIRD! And, um, annoying!
Have you tried purging the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge?
Further indications are this is some kind of Bridge problem, so I'll head over to the correct forum...
