Photoshop CS3 update downloads the new ACR 4.1
I initiate the install process but it always get hung-up about
3/4 the way through the install.
I also observed this. I usually update ACR manually, but this time I ran the Adobe updater and it offered the ACR 4.1 update along with another update I wanted to install.
What I think is happening is that the updater in installing the update(s) gets to the point where it needs to replace the Camera Raw.8bi file and it cannot do this while the Photoshop app is active. As I recall, the error message is not really clear -- just a generic problem encountered with something like a retry(?) or cancel option. If you close Photoshop then select the retry the installer will complete and update the Camera Raw 8b1. (At least this worked for me.)
It would be helpful to have a more informative message here, such as: Exit Photoshop and click Retry to complete the update.
Thanks for the report.
It needs to be pointed out that the original poster and I are on a Mac. You seem to be a Windows user. There are no "8b1" files on a Mac. :)
The point is well taken, though.
The Adobe updaters have been malfunctioning in one way or another for years and years.
Bob, You are right, in order to efficiently install the new plug-in you need to Exit Photoshop and also Bridge. I will forward the request for a better message in the dialog. Thank you for your submission.
Thank you all for replies.
As Ramon suggested I tried the manual ACR 4.1 install, with both PS CA3 and Bridge unopened. It installed. However, when I tried to open n RAW files from my Fuji S7000 the file wasn't recognized. When I went back to PS CS2 this same file opened. Would not the ACR4.1 update still be able to access file that were recognized in the previous version?
" It installed. "
No, it didn't...if you put it where it's supposed to be, Bridge CS3 and Photoshop CS3 would be using it...go back and double check where you think you put it...for Mac it MUST BE:
Boot Level HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/File Formats
If it ain't there, it's not installed.
As Jeff points out, you have to INSTALL it according to the instructions.
Also, you HAVE to Purge the cache right AFTER the installation of ACR 4.1.
This is all covered in the FAQs. Please read them.
Manually follow this path, remove the old ACR plug-in and put the ACR 4.1 you downloaded. <br /> <br />c <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1BaKblOrrhAVoErNw51y8r6rKDpsT" /></a> <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1BaKblOrrhAVoErNw51y8r6rKDpsT_thumb.jpg" border="0" /> <br />c Click on the thumbnail; scroll horizontally, it's a very wide image.
