In your Bridge preferences there is an option where you can indicate that you prefer Camera Raw for JPEG and TIF images. Make sure you have selected that option. But even then, I find that sometimes it doesn't work properly. Another way that works consistently on my computer is to highlight the images in Bridge and then open them by pressing Ctrl/R. My experience has been that Bridge sometimes gets confused on this association.
Jim, I do have those preferences set, still only randomly works. Ctrl-r is a good help. thanks
Poking into this with the comment that my prefs are set correctly for this and I also always open tif files into raw from Bridge using Command/R on the Mac....until recently, that is. Now, most tiffs open just fine but other do not. Any thoughts?
I have experienced this problem a time or two, but have never been able to trace it. I wonder if a new Bridge or a replacement for it will be one of the big selling points for CS4. Wouldn't that be something! Having to upgrade just to fix something that has never worked reliably and consistently.
>Having to upgrade just to fix something that has never worked reliably and consistently
is something I am determined never to do again!
>is something I am determined never to do again!
I don't think (and wish) that you will hold on to this promise... :-)
You're mistaken, Omke. Very.
Adobe of course couldn't care less about this. But my mind is made up. If Bridge doesn't get fixed in CS3, I will not upgrade to CS4.
>Adobe of course couldn't care less about this
No, but I do...! :-)
There's a setting in Camera Raw preferences too that has to be set.
There are actually 3 places for those settings. In the PSCS prefs, in Bridge prefs Camera Raw and Bridge prefs itself.
But it is very confusing. Every now and then I have the choice with right mouse button to choose to open them in ACR but after fiddling around with one of the settings it is gone again. I do believe that after a complete refresh with manual delete of Bridge and ACR cache files, bridge plist file and using option key with restart to refresh prefs the setting in Bridge prefs leaves you with the fly out menu choice in Bridge, and also double click in Bridge itself.
Using all three options opens a tiff and jpeg also when using the finder and that is for me no option.
Problems here too.
Right now, I'm looking at two TIFF files in Bridge and if I control-click on one, the menu shows "Open in Camera Raw" and the other doesn't. I've tried all manner of changing the Color Profile, changing the color space, resizing (they are 15k x 10k pixels) and I can't seem to figure it out.
Some TIFFs open in Camera Raw and some don't. It would be nice if there was some documentation of is necessary to get this to work.
And yes, I have the Camera Raw Preferences (in Bridge) set correctly (ACR 4.4.1)
ACR 4.x won't open files of more than 10K pixels in any direction.
If I'm not mistaken, it deals only with RBG files.
PECourtejoie, you are right on both accounts. How do you know about the 10k limit?
Is this documented somewhere?
RGB is correct too.
Thanks for the followup. Much appreciated.
I don't remember where I learned it, but the 10k pixels limit info can be found on the net, or in this very forum...
The filesize limit has been upped to 30.000 pixels per side on Lightroom 2 Beta, so one can guess/hope that it would also be the case for a future major release of ACR, given that LR uses the ACR engine.
I can confirm that this is true. Been using Lightroom 2 Beta, and it does support these >10k files. I didn't realize that LR uses the ACR engine, so that's good to know. I'll look forward to the final release (of both!)
