How can I see ACR edits for subsequent review/change?  Smart Objects needed?

I've been learning more and more about the major components for my photography workflow, and have been making some edits in ACR. When changes are made (white balance, exposure, etc.), they show up in the bridge thumbnails. The problem is this: how can you reverse the changes made, or at least review the history? I learned how to undo a crop, but I can't see how to undo other things. I've opened the ACR edited image in Photoshop proper, but there's nothing to see in history.

If I use ACR for most basic edits (as I'd like to), should I use Smart Objects to give more visibility and changeability later?

      Thanks.
