Don't think so, wish there was. It seems to happen on all new files. Not necessarily though on "Save As-es" (sounds a bit rude) if the original file was not pdf compatible.
I saved this text from a thread here a few years ago. I used it successfully in AICS1, but haven't tried since.
Also if you hack the pref file in a text editor (BBEdit,) change the "PDFCompatibility 1" to "PDFCompatibility 0" and by default PDF compatibility will be unchecked for any new saves.
By George, man, you've done it! Brilliant!
The text edit worked great. I saved the original Prefs file elsewhere just in case I messed something up, inserted the new '0', fired Illustrator back up, and Ta-Da! No more pesky PDF-intended inflated files!
Thanks so much for your help.
Remember that your new deflated AI files are only good in AI. You cannot place them in ID or open them in Acrobat.
Thanks but like I said I just copied that trick from somebody else. Unfortunately I forgot to save the name of the original poster, who really deserves the credit.
Glad to know it still works.
but did you clear up how to make a default for having the creat compatible pdf checked ON. I have to resave over 12,000 files. I tried to run a batch action and it does not save the create pdf option.
Very good question! I am afraid I don't know the answer, but am anxious to see what suggestions others have...
Yeay! Also works in CS4.
Well, apparently I've been working too hard.
After I had a new HD and OS installed recently, I'm back to the ol' "Create PDF Compatible File" selected by default. I've previously hacked into the preferences on CS3 and CS4 apparently without issue, but THIS time after the reinstall I suddenly have forgotten where/which dang file I'm supposed to look for. Where is the pref file located?
Thanks a bunch!
On a Mac Users>(yourname)>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe Illustrator CS3 or 4.
That's where I went earlier...I went to (home folder) wfrost>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe Illustrator CS4> and inside all I see is en_US. Inside that, I get (enclosed): (which is where I got stumped). I swear the last time(s) it was visable/easy!
Help again? Thanks
Sorry, I was thinking of the New Document Profiles. Try Users>(yourname)>Library>Preferences>Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings.
Thanks, Chef! I'm all set.
