1. Re: cmyk values change from file to file
Scott Falkner May 23, 2008 6:18 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)Since it's a spot colour, it's not worth worrying about. Book colour means the colour definition for the swatch is coming from the applications built-in swatch library. I've not seen a CMYK swatch switch to Book colour, though, so I don;t know why this would change. -

lister110@hotmail.com May 23, 2008 7:35 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)thing is we have setup the cmyk breakdowns from our Euro Coated pantone book for the desired pantone reference, and made them the spot.
But when we copy an artwork from one file to another and convert these back to cmyk the colour setting has swapped to book mode, the cmyk colours are have changed. -

John Danek May 23, 2008 5:01 PM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)I wonder if "Pantone Book" is the current default when conversion is made. Whereas, before the "Spot" color was converted ( manually? ) using previous Pantone percentages, which were re-configured a year or two ago. I do know that Pantone did new percentages of certain Spot colors and yours may be one of them. I'd just create new swatches using the old percentages and call it a day. -
4. Re: cmyk values change from file to file
(paul_tech) Jun 2, 2008 6:00 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)Experiencing similar strange conversion opening up a CS3 file in CS2 or CS. If we make up a spot channel in CS3 say 35m 100m. If the file is opened up in anything less than CS3 the result of the spot mix becomes 34c 100m 15y 1k. Can anyone else confirm? If this file were to be converted to process on press, someones head would be on the chopping block.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
thx

Sigurdur Armannsson Jun 3, 2008 7:50 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)@ paul tech: Is it possible that some of the files are in RGB? That would make similar colour changes you are descibing when a CMYK blend is opened in RGB mode. -

Mordy Golding Jun 3, 2008 8:22 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)I would suggest reading these two posts carefully. It might give you insight into what you're seeing. Let me know if this is helpful:

7. Re: cmyk values change from file to file
(paul_tech) Jun 4, 2008 5:58 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)Doh...I was on google trying to find info and didnt realize this bounced me into the Illustrator forum.
These are Photoshop files with a spot color channel. If the file is created in CS3 and then opened in any earlier version CS2 or Cs, the CMYK values of the spot channels are altered. Can any of you confirm this?
Is it a book color/LAB conversion problem?
thx
paul
