Outer glow not working in AICS3

When I add an outer glow to a black square it looks fine when I have the Raster Effects Resolution set to 36dpi (for quick saving, etc.) When I bump it up to anything much higher (for printing) the glow around the square's corners become corrupted. The glow for the four corners is now displaced about 3" along the square's diagonal--that is if you extended the diagonal lines 3". I can click on these phantom glows to select the box. When I switch it back to 36dpi, all looks fine. It doesn't matter if I use a rounded corner box, put them on different layers or change any settings in the Raster Effects menu. Is this just a known bug with this tool? That is how it is acting.

      My raster effects settings are:
      Medium (150)
      Transparent background
      .5 inches around Object
      Everything else is deselected.

I'd send an image (I have a screen shot), but I don't see how to add it to this post.

      Thanks for any help.
