    CS3.3 Anything Fixed in Illustrator?

    David C Johnson Community Member
Has anyone used Ai in CS3.3? Is it actually a new/updated version, or is it just 13.0.2 repackaged? I'm considering forking out the $160 to go from CS3 to CS3.3, but only if something I use in CS3, besides Acrobat, has been significantly improved. (I have Web Premium, and use Ai, Ps, Fw, Fl and Dw most.)

It would be worth $160 to me if they'd just fix the "I'm sorry, but an unknown error has occurred and I can't save your file." That problem has kept me stuck at 13.0.0 or 13.0.1 for months. Version 13.0.2 ALWAYS produces the error for me while saving (if the file contains text, I think.)

Thanks for any insight you might share.

CS3.3 has Acrobat 9. I think that's the only change from CS3. Other apps, including Illustrator, are unchanged (other than for the latest updates -- e.g., AI 13.0.2 -- I would assume).

Sergei, if you have a question about the suite, ask it in the suite forum and not in each forum for every app in the suite.

Failing that, read the info on CS3.3 here on Adobe's site. You'll save time, really.

I upgraded Design Premium CS3 to CS3.3 mainly for the addition of Fireworks. The upgrade physical package consists of 2 DVDs - Acrobat 9 and Fireworks CS3. Everything else in the suite is unchanged.

Thanks for the advice about checking the Adobe Web site about CS3.3. I did That first, before posting separate questions in the Version Cue (a Vc question), Illustrator (an Ai crash question) and Photoshop (a Ps question, sort of) forums. All three of my questions are related only in that they are specific to the CS3.3 upgrade, otherwise, they are specific application questions.

I firmly believe the following Web page is what I saw last night, except that last night, the third bullet under Web Premium said "All New" versions of Illustrator, Fireworks, Flash, Photoshop... I swear it did!
                http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/web/

That's where my confusion lies. Thanks to you all for telling me what's really in the box, rather than what the advertisement said - you saved me $160.

Sorry they made it confusing for you, Sergei. The "all new" really just means the latest version which is CS3. The only addition is Acrobat 9. And the CS3.3 is just the suite name... nothing to do with the apps.

Joe, I find it curious that they would add a web program in what's been known as a print package. Then again, I don't know why they would include Flash and Dreamweaver, either. Or why neither of the Web editions would have PS.

Anyway, yeah, if you don't absolutely need Acrobat 9, save your money.

                    Jcates,

Beats me! Personally, I'm growing more and more interested in web development and upgrading to CS3.3 seemed like an opportunity to get Fireworks at a reduced price. If Design Premium CS4 comes with Fireworks (I assume it will), I now don't have to upgrade the whole suite to get it.

Curiously, a lot of illustrator's websites include web design as part of their set of skills. I don't fancy being left behind! It seems that the division between Design and Web is decreasing.
