Yes - to power off, use the command shutdown()
You can't power it on though.

Shutdown only initiates the shutdown process, so if the user has unsaved files open, they will be given the normal requests to save their work, etc.

          Hope this helps!

Well, powering a computer ON is a bit difficult since no code is running
on a computer that is off. But you can shut the machine down using
the shutDown() method. And you can restart a computer using restart().

              Hi Anne,

I had to do the same thing a while ago.
For powering off, I used: budapi (2 functions for free):

              baExitWindows("shutdown")

But Lingo should do the trick to as mentioned before.
For booting the computer I used the BIOS feature reboot on power failure
(or something like it). You can put a timedswitch between the computer
and the pc to simulate a power failure.
Some BIOS-es also have a timed-boot feature working on the internal clock.

                thank you.
What I really need is to have a PC server connected to seven PC clients
(LAN-WIFI) and from the server power on and off each PC client.
                can you help me please?
                thanks again

                  Hi Anne,

never tried it, but don't some BIOS-es have atleast a wakeup-on-LAN
feature? I think this only would get them out of hybernation, but a
                  google search:
                  http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=%22boot+on+lan%22&btnG=S earch

does bring up some results but not too hopefull:
                  http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t48828.html

For shutting down I'd really don't know. Maybe the good old MUS sending
the director clients a shutdown signal? Must be easier...

Maybe someone with more hardware/network knowledge...

                    Hi Anne
You can also check out PowerOff 3.0 from
                    http://users.pandora.be/jbosman/poweroff/poweroff.htm
It does work over tcp/ip, including WOL (wake on lan).
And it does accept commandline, so you can use Valentins shellXtra from
                    within director:
                    http://staff.dasdeck.de/valentin/xtras/shell/

If you really need to use WOL on wireless, make sure that the cards support
                    it (including the WOL-connector...)

It seems like a controlled setup you make. You can boot the pc's as Manno
said - when they get power (110/230V), by setting the bios to "boot on power
resume". And shut them down the hard way, by taking the power...All that can
be done in the electrical setup, e.g controlled by one button. If you have
peripherals on some of your pc's in your setup, that takes a long time to
boot, and the pc's need them to be alive on startup, you can use a timer for
that particular pc, or leave the power on for those items.
