BobLevine Jul 23, 2008 12:33 PM (in response to Michael Brown12)Export the swatches from Illustrator as ASE and then you can load them.

MT.Freelance Jul 23, 2008 12:37 PM (in response to Michael Brown12)If you want to have your AI swatches in the InDesign file, the easiest method is:
Open the file in AI.
In the swatches palette, select Save Swatches for Exchange
Open InDesign
In the swatches palette, select Load Swatches and browse to the file save above.

Actually, it's probably even easier to just place the .ai file and then delete it. Any defined swatches will be added, and left behind.
But saving swatches as .ase files is a lot more versatile in the long run. :)

Errrr, not exactly.
Only spot colors, not global or non-global process colors, will be added. The only way to get those swatches over is to use an .ase file. -

Is there even an alternative when going from ID to Illustrator? I never did find a way to import swatches. I recreated them. -

BobLevine Jul 26, 2008 2:07 PM (in response to sandeecohen)And I forgot...this actually has the benefit of being able to add
gradient swatches which, IIRC don't work with ASE.

If I understand matters correctly this is no longer necessary. Ai will copy both formats (AICB and PDF) to the clipboard. The preference in Ai CS3 states that the choice is only relevant when you quit Ai.
Thus it is up to InDesign whether to paste the PDF or the AICB -

BobLevine Jul 27, 2008 5:25 AM (in response to (Gerald_Singelmann))Interesting. Thanks Gerald.
I guess that will depend on your ID pref for "prefer PDF when pasting."
