I would say that you need server CS2 or CS3. Only server supports soap communications to request/receive a script and execute it.

I was able to create a nasty looking VB Scrfipt to import XML data into InDesign CS3 document and export to PDF. I'm using InDesign CS3 desktop version for Windows since Server is quite expensive. Works like a charm.
Take a look at the post on MSDN. I habve two, one that talks about invoking Windows Script to make the call to execute the actual VB Script. Works wonderfully. You have to make some DCOM setting changes when you invoke from a WebService as I did. Expecially allow the NetworkService for Launch and Activation from DCOM config manager. Good Luck.
