Missing required system fonts or cmap files

Hello,

I installed (and uninstalled and reinstalled over and over) InDesign CS2 today (via the full Creative Suite 2 installer), and every time I try to launch it, I get the dreaded "missing required system fonts or cmap files. please reinstall" dialog.

I have read and tried http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/324343.html. I have manually copied in the ZX______.PFM and ZY______.PFM files. I have deleted the AdobeFnt*.lst files, and reinstalled.

Nothing seems to work.

Could someone assist with a solution?

Regards,
Allan

Hi Alan,

I'm experiencing the exact same difficulty you experienced when attempting to launch InDesign and I have tried the same solutions but to no avail. Your message is dated December 17,2005. I was wondering if you have resolved the issue since then and if so what is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Allan and Gerry,

I do have the same problem with the official trial version of Adobe InDesign and I'm looking hard for a solution, but I can not find one.

Did one of you solve the problem?? If yes, what is the (final)solution???

Thanks in advance...

I have had this problem too on a Windows XP Home machine.
The fix that we found was to log in as the administrator and set all the subdirectories of "Documents and Settings/All Users" to full permissions for all of the machine's users. After opening the permissions, re-run the install and all of the necessary files should be placed properly.

If you need more details, let me know.

I found the following solution:
- remove manually : Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts/Reqrd/Base
- re-install Adobe InDesign (Program can be launched and works!)
- get update (version 4.0.2)
- and finally.... Go to work!!

Please let me know if this solution was helpfull, thanks!!

I've tried this fix (removing the Base directory and reinstalling) and no luck. I'll try the update though, not sure if I have that..

When you say "reinstall", do you mean to reinstall over the previous, or completely uninstall then reinstall.

Unless I uninstall first, it only allows me to run the Repair, which doesn't restore the Base directory or fix the issue.

If I uninstall/reinstall, I end up in the same place.

I've manually copied the missing ZX and ZY font files into the Base directory, but that doesn't fix either.

Nor does running the update.

Can anyone tell me what CMAP files I need? Maybe those are the issue, not fonts...?

Mitch,

I meant: remove the Program Files/ ... /Base

Reinstall without uninstalling first. : the .../Base will not be replaced, wich caused me no problems at all (I've used InDesign almost the entire day and I did not experience any failures so far.

What also might be helpfull is the following: uninstall QuickTime and reinstall it after you've reinstalled InDesign (be sure that QuickTime is the default viewer!!!)
If this will not help I'll search for the CMAP files!

I've also copied all the files to the CMAP over and over again, but that did not bring me any luck!
For now Good Luck!!

Is Adobe doing anything about this? I've found this same complaint on dozens of other boards, with the same install error. You'd think they'd release a patch to address it.

In my experience, the Missing CMap error almost always happens when you try to remove all the fonts from the Adobe Creative Suite private font location. In Windows that's: Program Files > Common Files > Adobe > Fonts.

There is a Reqd folder which cannot be removed or InDesign (and possibly other CS2 applications) will complain with that error message.

Ok I've reinstalled again. The folder structure is intact. I found on another forum a suggestion to make sure the Adobe SAM MM file is in the Base folder as well. Any idea what file this is?

If you have the luxury of having InDesign CS2 installed on multiple machines, you can copy the
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts"
folder from a working computer to the same location on the one producing the error message. Copying just the Base folder under Fonts didn't work, but the entire Fonts folder did the trick in my case.

I have this very problem too :(

Is it possible to contact Adobe directly about this? Their "fixes" don't work, and I'm left here with a piece of software costing hundreds of pounds which won't even open. As you may imagine, I'm not best pleased...

Tony.

PS Thank you nonetheless to all those kind folks who have offered their assistance thus far.

I CANNOT fix this issue. No matter how many times I uninstall, install, reinstall, in any order, I just can't get it done. I've even tried, not sure why this would help, but have done the same in combination with quicktime. The solutions they offer just aren't working for me, and I'd appreciate any help.

Someone offered the idea of copying from another PC the missing files. I don't have this installed on another PC. Is there a way I could download the files separately?

The only way I was able to fix my missing files error was to request the files from another user on iRC. I HAVE the missing Cmap files that caused this issue for me.

These files go in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts\Reqrd\CMaps

The following files that should be in there are:

You may for some reason be missing the Base folder. It's also in that Reqrd directory, with the CMaps folder. The files in the Base folder are:

wmb_____.afm
wmb_____.inf
wmb_____.pfb
wmb_____.pfm

wmr_____.pfm

If you would like to recieve a copy of these files, please do not hesitate to eMail me @ Stoned4Life[at]gmail[dot]com.

P.S. The files are what fixed my problem, but I cannot gurantee anything as to what may result from you useing them. Also, if this is in some way, shape, or form, against Adobe policy, F*** YOU! Fix the problem yourself next time Adobe.
