I am wondering if anyone knows if there is an ability to use human like avatars with Captivate 3? Also does anyone know where I may find them and cost or any free sites in which to import them.

Welcome to our community, Linda

You might check out CodeBaby. I recently saw a Captivate using one of these. It was quite impressive!

Yes you can use avatars with Captivate. In addition to CodeBaby, you could
try Visual Communicator (www.vcom3d.com), which I've been experimenting with
for the last few weeks. Very powerful, but not cheap.

Check out this article on Silke's blog for more info

I don't think you will actually find any free avatars that you can use,
because you need to record audio, gestures etc. to suit your own
requirements. The closest would have been Microsoft's Agent, but that
doesn't work with Captivate so far as I know (no ActiveX support).

Hi Linda,

I use these quite a lot in my captivate 3 projects. I use Media Semantics package. They produce well as small .swf files which you drop into CP3, although the only issue I have had is the project must be published to Flash version 9 in the CP settings for them to run smoothly in a browser.

The whole thing is not free, nor particularly expensive. The character builder package is $295 and comes with some realistic sample characters (James and Jessi) which you can use straight away. Additional character can be purchased from $10 each. You do need to purchase additional Speech pack(s) also, which start at a few hundred dollars ( I would recommend either neospeech or the more expensive but clearer Loquendo).
