We are working in making this process a little easier in the next release.
In the current release, you need to take your PDF, convert it into a postscript file using the toPS operation (from Common/ConvertPDF), then pass that ps file the convertPDF operation from PDF Generator to create the PDF/A file.
First of all, thank you for the reply. This was also the solution we used in the previous version of LiveCycle (7.2), where we had two watched folders. One did PDF->PS and the other PS->PDF/A.
I tried your suggestion, but now I have a new problem. The conversion to PS works fine, but the createPDF call now fails with the following message: ALC-PDG-011-020-The source file you submitted is not supported by this version of PDF Generator.
Because this is a POC I'm working with the trial version of LiveCycle ES. Is there some limitation on it or do I need to download a different version? Has this something to do with the fact that for LiveCycle 7.2 there were 3 different versions of PDF Generator, in which one specifically had PS in its name?
Small update: when using the 'Create PDF' menu item for the 'LiveCycle PDF Generator ES' service in the adminui, I am able to generate a PDF/A using exactly the same parameters as I'm passing to the GeneratePdfServiceClient.createPDF call. This really has me stumped!
Make sure you use the CreatePDF from the Distiller service. This is the one that hanldes ps files.
Let me know.
That did the trick. I now get a PDF result without the exception being thrown.
Until your previous reply it wans't clear for me that there wasn't a single PDF generating service, but 2 like
- GeneratePDFService: everything except PS formats -> PDF & PDF/A
- DistillerService: only PS formats -> PDF & PDF/A
Maybe it would be helpful if I added this experience (and exception code + message) as a comment to the Livedocs for the GeneratePDFService?
Thank you very much for your help. This is why I like software/developer communities.
That would be a good idea. Any information sharing is good.
I'm glad I could help.
How do I resove
"com.adobe.livecycle.formsservice.exception.FormServerException: Malformed Environment Buffer parameter" error?
What should the Eveironment Variables be for processFormSubmit?
My input form is Document Form which contains digital signatures.
1)User input data, sign, and submit to supervisor done via Workspace.
2)Supervisor either approves or reject the request by checking check box field. The form then be routed to next phase depending on Approve/Disapprove value. In order to make this determination, I need to to convert PDF to XDP so that I access to the Approve/Disapprove field.
Are you using the Java APIs or are you working via the graphical workflow tool?
If you are using the LiveCycle ES 8.2, you can use the DocConverter. More information about the DocConverter you can found from here:
