Any loss from PDF to PS level 3

If PDF converted to PS with level 3, is there any quality loss? I did a expreiment below, I convert PDF (with smalles file size setting) file to PS level 3 and then convert the PS back to PDF (with smalles file size setting), to my suprised, the file size doubled.

I do not know what is happening in PDF to PS level 3, I am wondering is there any quality change in this process, such as image and font resoluation and so on.

      Thanks for your help.

Potentially, yes, when the PDF has transparency. This must be
flattened, and settings apply, some with quality implications.

If you then convert the PostScript back to PDF, you don't get the
          transparency back.

Fonts are unaffected by this process if there is no transparency
involved. Similarly vector graphics. Images are not degraded in
making PostScript, but are subject to recompression. Of course,
decompressing and recompressing JPEG-compressed images will degrade
          the quality.

Roundtripping in this way is not really recommended.

Thanks Aandi for the insight. Then question is if PDF file setting need to be changed, say from press quality setting to small file size setting, how to do it?

            Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I have no idea of the capabilities of the LiveCycle ES Document
Output product we're discussing. If, on the other hand, you're looking
at something for an individual to use and they have Acrobat, please
              try the Acrobat forum.
