I forgot to mention I am using Windows - Vista operating system.
All bets are off with PM and Vista:

Either move on to InDesign or find a PC with an older version of windows.

I have the same problem as Kevin. 11 year old computer albeit running Windows XP home died last week. New PC has Vista op system and trial version of PM 7 wont open old files at all. I really need them. Any ideas?
Buy an old computer on eBay or move to InDesign. Pagemaker is dead.
I finally just gave up. I have not found anyone that has made PM7.0 work with the Windows Vista operating systems. Since I have already bought PM7.0. I paid the additional $195 and upgraded to In Design. I have not installed In Design yet but it should have it installed and working next week. I understand that all PM files will open in ID so I hope this helps. FYI, when I called Abobe and gave them Pagemaker 7.0 and Windows Vista program, the guy from India said they are not compatable. So they transfered me to the upgrade center and I paid a little more for In Design.

I have the same problem as Kevin, only I'm not on Vista, but on XP 64 bits!
Should I assume that PM 7.0 just won't open PM 6.5 files?
There is nothing I can do and PM is dead for me? All my old files are useless now?
I have a report to deliver by the end of the month I really must make my PM6.5 files work..
Any help appreciated
XP64 is completely unsupported for all Adobe applications.
All Adobe applications?
What about Adobre reader? Its running fine here!
Anyway... if I want to use PM7 I must revert to 32 bits? There is no other way? Tell me it isn't true!!!!
Thanks for the quick reply by the way!
José, re-read message 2 above.
If you want to use PM7, use a PC with Windows 2K or XP (32-bit) PC.
You can open PM files with InDesign, but don't expect perfection. Make sure you have the required fonts and images available.

And don't expect it to work with XP64. For 64 bit you should be using
