    Import metadata deleted my ratings

OK, I acknowledge this was MY error, and LR2 didn't pull the trigger. It just loaded the gun and pointed it......

Decided yesterday to re-create my catalog in the forlorn hope LR 2 would be smaller than LR1..... Deleted the old one and started the import on the 35,000 images in this catalog... I realized I didn't have a copyright in the metadata during the import, so I created one.

I BELIEVE when the metadata popup came up, it was with ALL the boxes checked. I filled in what I needed and didn't pay attention to the fact that EVERYTHING was checked. Wait for it..... Yup, imported 35,000 images and NONE OF THEM HAVE RATINGS OR LABELS ANY MORE.

And, just to make it even better, I had "write metadata to files" checked so not only does the CATALOG not have any labels or ratings, NEITHER DO THE SOURCE FILES ON THE DISK................

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, or how many others have missed the checked, empty boxes, but it would sure be nice if this could be changed so LR doesn't automatically write blanks over the labels and/or ratings.

I may be the dumbest person ever to live but LR2 sure helped me shoot myself in the foot this time.

Maybe... open the backup of the old catalog (the backup you made just before deleting the old one) and writing the metadata back out again to the source files. Then you can start over with a new catalog as you originally intended, with the appropriate boxes checked.

Yup, that's what I did. Only lost 2 directories that I had to re-convert from the .NEF to .dng files.... Unfortunately, it looks like at LEAST an overnight job to have the catalog re-import the metadata.

I have to say, there are some things about LR2 that are better, but this thing is PAINFULLY slow. Even 2.1.....
