1. Re: The disappearing Lightroom 1.1
(Mel_Lammers) Jul 11, 2007 7:56 PM (in response to hrh gracie)When I had this problem, it turned out that I had a bad motherboard. Eventually corrupted my HD and files which then corrupted my backup files and I lost some photos.
If it continues to happen, and reinstalling LR doesn't have an effect, then see if you have any disk errors.
This stuff can sneak up on you.

hrh gracie Jul 12, 2007 11:07 AM (in response to hrh gracie)No disk errors, and nothing else has experienced any oddities... CS works, Bridge works, everything else works. LR has been working consistently since it disappeared last night...
Maybe just an anomaly but I'm always a bit suspicious of behaviors like this. But then if its not hitting anybody else I'll just ignore it unless it becomes a bigger problem. -

hrh gracie Jul 26, 2007 2:46 PM (in response to hrh gracie)Just happened again........ One second I'm in LR 1.1 looking at images in Develop, and the next I'm looking at the desktop...... No warning, no error, no NOTHING... Just gone.....
AND, to make it extra exciting - ITS NOT THE SAME MACHINE IT HAPPENED ON BEFORE. Different installation of XP-64, 4GB of memory, plenty of disk space everywhere... (just over 2.2 TB (terabytes). Last time it was an AMD4400 X2, this time its an Intel e6700.
Once may be a fluke or oddity. Twice is a concern... -

pdekman Jul 26, 2007 4:33 PM (in response to hrh gracie)I can confirm the same behavior on my Windows XP system. I've not had it occur during a photo editing session, but I've come back to my PC to find the desktop showing and LR no longer in sight.
I would guess this has occured about 5 or 6 times since upgrading so not too frequent for me.

(Ken_Purvis) Jul 30, 2007 12:24 PM (in response to hrh gracie)I have had the same issue 5 times today. Lightroom disappears on this machine.
No error. I have had nothing but trouble with the computer until I reboot and do not load lightroom.
I deleted and reinstalled lightroom 1.1
Very frustrated and it works fine on my home machine.

(Michael_D_Miller) Jul 31, 2007 4:52 PM (in response to hrh gracie)I guess I am closest to your thread.
I was getting crashes out of LR whenever I multiselected images, and whenever I chose practically any menu, particularly File or Export. Cold booting helped for about 2 minutes and then crash. I got the MS dialog of do I want to report it to MS.
I started the troubleshooting in the faqs. I updated the video driver, let it make a new preferences file, something else-I forgot, and then to go into RUN MSCONFIG in the start menu and disable all startup programs, and go to the hot bar lower right and disable anything else that was running. I DID NOT stop the network, the safely remove hardware and didn't have to do anything with the volume control. Then reboot. Say Ok that you started in special mode, and when a startup dialog comes up showing that you have unselected everything, Exit without restarting out of if asked.
Now I am able to use LR, SO FAR, which means that something in my startup bar, lower right, I think they call it the "notifications area" is in conflict with LR. Now, without reading the rest of the faq, I have to try restoring them one at a time. I had already disabled the Roxio CD Drag to Disk which did give me trouble when I got the previous version. I also tried disabling Norton antivirus, but that didn't help either.
If I determine a valid cause, I'll write back.

8. Re: The disappearing Lightroom 1.1
hrh gracie Aug 1, 2007 9:46 PM (in response to hrh gracie)Interesting... There are now 4 of us REPORTING the problem... Which means there are hundreds (or maybe thousands if they've sold that many copies) that are experiencing it... Does anybody know if there's any interest at Adobe in finding and FIXING this? 'Cause having LR disappear a half dozen times a day or having to completely shut down all the startup programs that are normal to Windows so LR will run seems (to use a MUCH milder word than I'd like to use) "undesirable"... -

(Eben_Haber) Aug 11, 2007 4:16 PM (in response to hrh gracie)I started seeing the same problem this week. Lightroom crashes after a few minutes use. the same error, reporting ui.dll. -
10. Re: The disappearing Lightroom 1.1
(Michael_D_Miller) Aug 13, 2007 6:11 AM (in response to hrh gracie)Just a reminder, while my error is not exactly the same, I got kicked out of LR when I did a CTRL+A to highlight all the files in a (LR) folder, or I got kicked out when I tried to select pretty much any menu selection like trying to go to Export.
But, my LR has been stable since I went through the suggestion step of going to MSCONFIG in the run menu, going to the Startup tab, and turning off everything. Then you follow instructions to do a restart.
When you restart, you will be brought up to the same msconfig dialog.
Check the Startup tab. It should have nothing checked, although I thought I rememered perhaps ms checking off maybe one item. You're just verifying so when it asks you to restart or exit, you exit (the dialog). LR should work then. I think it won't automatically go into Import mode (if you have LR set up that way) when it detects a card, but that's ok.
Next, as you have time, you start adding only the startups that you need. I had to re-add Palm hot synch, since that stopped working with my MSCONFIG startup settings unchecked. Palm was on the list so I checked it again, went thru a restart, verified the startup settings when my machine booted and the msconfig dialog came up again, but again, just Exited it without restarting again.
