I believe so Barb, but obviously make sure you install them into different
some specific questions and concerns
Location and name of the default catalog - are they the same ?
I don't know enough about Shared Folders, Files, DLL's etc within the Adobe applications to be specific - but this area of potentially overlaying any existing file in a shared folder is one that makes me wonder.
Also this thread did not include PS Album 2 (retail not starter) being installed, which is also probably relevant.
This is a strange beast. The default is still My Catalog but there is no
ability to customize where the catalogue will go, nevermind if you want to
create another one.
> Location and name of the default catalog - are they the same ?
I'll have to check on the other computer for PSA 2. I just have CS 2 on this
one. For some reason I thought I also had PSE 3.0, but I don't.
Sorry for the screw up Barbara. That said, the extension is the same. This
looks to me as though PSA 3 SE won't read other catalogs... but I'll have to
test it at the house. I'm at the school right now.
It also includes a small item that says "upgrade to PSE", so it is
compatible... but as you are right to be concerned... I still need to
install it with PSE to see about running it in parallel. As I look at
this... I can't see any advantage to.
PSA 2 SE had that restriction.
Incase you remember me, here's some of the information you are looking for.
Q - Will SE3 co-exist with PSE 3 ?
A - Yes. Its been designed to co-exist with PSE3 but as Mr Moore said, "Its better to back up "PSE 3" catalog".
Q - Can I create more catalogs other than the default My Catalog.
A - No
Q - Can I open a catalog other then My Catalog
A - Quick answer is No. Possible if you run into some issues with My Catalog and likewise.
Q - If I do some work in SE 3, will PSE 3/4 be able to open the catalog and will I be able to preserve my work
A - Yes
Thanks and looking fwd to comments !!
Let me know if you want me to do anything further... otherwise, Nandan's
comments seem pretty clear.
Thank you Nandan.
It will be later this week or next week that I have access to the classroom machine to try the PSA 3 SE install. Jim, this seems like sufficient info - guess I will really know when I go to install PSA SE 3. I will report my results back to this thread.
I have installed PSA 3 SE and it does not appear to get in the way of either PSA 2 or PSE 3. Having said that, I keep the catalogs for those 2 programs in non-standard places.
It is a strange beast. Seems very like PSA 2, with stuff stripped out [to make it "SE"], but with some of the PSE 3 Organizer enhancements.
What did you observe to be the folder location for the PSA 3 SE Catalog? Is there any choice?
At home, I can avoid having either PSE 3 catalog or PSA 2 catalog with default name and location. However, in the classroom setup it is more complex.
> What did you observe to be the folder location for the PSA 3 SE Catalog? Is there any choice?
It seems to put it here: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album\Catalogs
I can see no way to change it.
