I'm sorry to hear about this problem. I can imagine it's very upsetting.
You can certainly do what you want, but you'd need some photo editing software to get it done. Photoshop Elements would be a good choice, but there are lots around - probably even free ones.
The approach is to display a thumbnail as big as PSE SE will allow. Then to a screen capture [PrintScreen button]. The paste into the editing program, crop off the excees dross and save the image. It will take some minutes for each one.
How many do you need to recover? There may be a few shortcuts if the number is very large.
Thanks for the response. That is a huge relief.
I will need to recover about 200 photos so it is viable to do one by one. If there is a way to batch recover them, it would be great but really, I am just hugely relieved to be able to get them back at all.
You might want to go searching in download.com etc. to see if you can find free tool to do more clever things with screen captures.
I'm also very soy to hear of your loss of your photos. The same thing happened to me a few years back. I lost my first two years of digital images. precious photos of my kids I cannot get back.
I know this is kinda like closing the barn door after the horse has run off, but have you tried the backup service offered through Starter Edition. (Go to the Order icon and select Online Backup...)
It automates the whole process, and stores your photos in geographically separated data centers. Works great.
