You need to do 2 things:
1) Make sure that the photos go back in exactly the same location as they were before. Otherwise PSA SE will have trouble finding them.
2) Find the My Catalog.PSA file [in Docs&Settings somewhere - hidden folder probably] and save it. This is where tagging info is stored. This also must be restored to the same location after you install PSA SE again.
Thanks I tried to this and I have checked and re checked everything is in same location - however I can not find / re find the tagging info. Any idea what I need to do?
Have you located/save the correct copy of My Catalog.PSA? [look at the date]
if you havent' yet re-formated your hard drive, there is another option.
Go download the free 30-day trial of Photoshop Elements from http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/tryout.html
Install it. When you run it for the first time, it will import your Starter Edition Catalog, and all your images and tags.
Then, in Elements, go to File>Export and export all your files.
Select a location to save the new files. When the files are exported, all the tag information gets written to them.
Then, after you re-format your hard drive, move your exported images back onto it, and then re-install Starter Edition. When your images are puled back into Starter Edition, the tag data will get read back into the Starter Edition catalog.
Kinda a long way around it, but it will work.
I searched my hard drive and there was no other My Catalog.psa than the one I saved. It was situated under C/windows/adobe/3.0/shared assets/..... looking at the date last changed it seemed a bit old but I figure since no other file that supposed to be the right one.
Unfortunately my hard drive is already format hence I can not adapt he free trail plan on PS elements.
The My Catalog.PSA file will be in a hidden folder - have you made them visible?
I think so - I could easily find them as described. Is there anything specific I should do to make them visible (I know that the explorer sometimes says these files are hidden but click here to make them visible witch I have done of course).
In WE you need to go to Tools/Folder Options/View and check the option to make hidden stuff visible.
