1. Re: Rule of thirds
hatstead-pbiq5w Sep 16, 2007 3:41 PM (in response to Jean- Pierre Lemonde)I have PEv.3, but I doubt that v.5 is different in this regard.
You have to set up a grid. Go to Edit>Preferences>Grid and enter gridline every 33.3% and subdivision=1. Next, with picture file open, go to View & check grid. This can be toggled off and on.
Access the move tool to position the central area of interest to an off-center intersection, then crop.

2. Re: Rule of thirds
(abcooper) Sep 16, 2007 3:50 PM (in response to Jean- Pierre Lemonde)The "Rule of Thirds" pertains to a compositional rule of thumb on how to compose or crop a picture. You crop applying the rule of thirds by deciding what part of the image to include and what part to crop out.
It's not done "with" PE5 except that you are applying the crop in PE5. You need to read up a bit on how to apply the rule to your images. You might start with http://photospot2004.blogspot.com/2004/07/rule-of-thirds.html for an explanation of the technique or Google "Rule of Thirds" and read some other pages.
You might click View>Grid to help visualize the image in thirds, but you really end up doing it by eyeball.
