    Beginner Layout Help

I have to create a self promotional site for a project, and am a complete beginner in dreamweaver. I had one intro workshop in it but it was just the very basics. I created my layout and everything in photoshop of what I want it to look like ( http://cwaddell.deviantart.com/art/Home-Page-103459878) but am a bit stuck now in actually setting it up.
I have managed to put in the images in the places I want in one of the templates, but cant figure out how to get the white background where the text and everything goes, to go transparent or to change it to the background if thats possible. Not sure if there is an easier way of setting it up or not.

Also need some help with the background image - It's one large image, and cant seem to get the size right. If there is too much on the page and I scroll down, it repeats the image and doesnt look good, so need some help trying to figure out the size I should have it as. If not I'll have to try and change it.

Also could anyone reccomend any good tutorial sites for CS4?

A picture of the page is really of no help. Please upload the page itself,
with all supporting files, and post a link.

              Found these OnlineTutorials

But try those mentioned above by Murray ACE first.

Come back to us if you're still stuck. Get a friend to put what you have achieved already up on the web (even if only in temporary ISP provider webspace)

              Good luck

Honestly, I'd ignore those. What the original poster needs is HTML and CSS
understanding, not DW training. They need to get the theory, not the tool,
                doncha know.

I agree with Murray. That's a great tutorial he posted.
